Jake’s Nushagak Salmon Camp

You can still feel the excitement in the air as you plop yourself back down into your boat chair, your arms are sore but you cannot wipe the biggest grin off of your face because you just spent the last moments reeling in the king of your dreams. He had fought hard, but you fought harder, and in the end you ended up holding a beautiful king Salmon in your hands for the first time. As you hear the hum of the motor the clanking of your tackle buzzing in the breeze as you zip back up the to the top of a great spot that you just hooked into your first king you know you made the right choice and came to one of the best fisheries in Alaska, the Nushagak River.

Jake’s Nushagak Salmon Camp, was the first overnight Commercial Sports Fishing Camp permitted by the Yup’ik Eskimos on the Nushagak River. Fast forward 39 years, Jake’s dream is still alive and people return every year to continue the fishing dream. Though Jake is no longer with us, one of his friends still hasn’t missed a year!

We are a small remote fishing lodge located on the Nushagak River. Once you arrive to Dillingham, we will shuttle you over to the float plane dock where you will be loaded up with all of your gear and whisked away in a float plane for a twenty minute scenic ride to our place on the river.

Starting around the 17th of June each year we start out king salmon fishing off with a bang and will fish throughout the month leading up to around the 6th of July. Our river isn’t known for a great big kings, but our fishery is known for the quantity of kings that run our river.

Sockeye, or reds, will start running our river mid to late June, with us being so close to the ocean, the reds are in fact still bright chrome and put up a good fight on a flossing rod as you bring them in.

Silver salmon hit us hard during the month of August, they hit bait hard and show a fabulous display of throwing themselves out of the water as you reel them in! They are an aggressive fish and are quite theatrical when on the hook.

If you are looking for a friendly, family oriented fishing camp where you come as a client but leave as family then this is the camp for you! We have home cooked style meals, and we gather together for our meals in our heated lodge and to hear each other’s fishing stories. We have people come from all over the world, but we all come together for the love of one thing, and that is fishing on the Nushagak River. We look forward to hearing from you, and hope that we can host you on your next Alaskan adventure!
