An active subscription plan is required to transmit messages over the Iridium satellite network.
One feature that is custom to Zoleo is that it transmits messages over satellite, cellular and Wi-Fi for a truly seamless global messaging experience. The device takes advantage of cellular and Wi-Fi when it is available, but it transmits over the Iridium satellite network when it’s not.

At only 5.3 ounces, it is a good backcountry safety option. All you need to do is purchase your Zoleo handheld device either online or at AIH in Alaska. Then just choose your subscription plan, get the app, and activate the system. Subscription plans include basic, In Touch and Unlimited and your subscription can be put on hold for a small fee when it is not needed.
