Zoleo is the new ruggedly designed, location-aware and Iridium-based, satellite communicator device that keeps you connected and secure when venturing into the backcountry of Alaska beyond cell coverage. Built in check-in and SOS buttons help keep you safe.
Connect your ZOLEO device with the free app on your smartphone and you will be able to send and receive messages anywhere on earth, and a whole lot more. Fish Alaska/Hunt Alaska staff has field tested this unit in the remote areas of Alaska from Yakutat to Togiak and it worked like a champ. An active subscription plan is required to transmit messages over the Iridium satellite network.
One feature that is custom to Zoleo is that it transmits messages over satellite, cellular and Wi-Fi for a truly seamless global messaging experience. The device takes advantage of cellular and Wi-Fi when it is available, but it transmits over the Iridium satellite network when it’s not.
ZOLEO Inc. is a venture between two companies, Beam Communications Pty. Ltd. and Roadpost Inc. They offer consumers affordable global messaging connectivity, plus a safety system you can count on, from the moment you leave cellular coverage to your return. Providing a familiar smartphone messaging experience that transmits seamlessly over satellite, cellular and Wi-Fi, Zoleo is reinventing global messaging.
At only 5.3 ounces, it is a good backcountry safety option. All you need to do is purchase your Zoleo handheld device either online or at AIH in Alaska. Then just choose your subscription plan, get the app, and activate the system. Subscription plans include basic, In Touch and Unlimited and your subscription can be put on hold for a small fee when it is not needed.
